Mining IndustryMining operations rely on high-quality equipment that functions with consistent efficiency and safety even under the harshest conditions. This is why mining companies need to incorporate equipment produced using precisely fabricated metal components.

G.E. Mathis Company offers a variety of solutions to assist customers in achieving their production goals and meeting industry standards. Because of this, we ensure that our customers get consistently top-quality products and services.

Metal Fabrication Services for Mining

At G.E. Mathis Company, we offer a variety of metal manufacturing services, including plasma cutting, laser processing, precision bending and forming, welding, and contract manufacturing. Our team of experienced craftsmen utilizes state-of-the-art technology and premium materials to fabricate precise, durable, and cost-effective products.

We provide mining operations with dependable wear parts made from abrasion-resistant steel for open-pit and underground mining. Mining companies around the world rely on these materials to extend service life, minimize downtime, reduce personnel costs, and decrease operating expenses.

These are our top fabrication services for the mining industry.

Laser Cutting

Laser cutting achieves a level of precision that other metal cutting technologies do not. This thermal cutting solution utilizes a high-powered laser beam to make a focused cut in the material along a specified path. Cuts are smooth and produce little waste, as the laser vaporizes the removed material. G.E. Mathis Company performs laser cutting services using a 3-axis, CO2 flying optic, hybrid laser cutting machine, which produces precision cuts in materials up to 1.25 inches thick.

Press Brake Forming/Bending

Press Brake forming is a process that involves bending plate or sheet metal to a particular angle. The process uses a press brake with top and bottom tooling that applies as much as 1,000 tons of pressure to bend the metal. To complete this service, our facilities house eight hydraulic press brakes, including four CNC-controlled and four manual press brakes. Ranging from 400 ton to 1000 ton capacities, we can accommodate lengths from 20 up to 48 ft. This equipment enables us to fabricate a wide range of components, like channels, bump-formed sections, ob-rounds, cylinders, cones, and more.

Welding

Welding involves fusing two or more metal parts by applying heat and sometimes pressure. Different applications require specific welding processes. At G.E. Mathis Company, we offer a variety of welding services, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), metal inert gas (MIG) welding, gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and flux core arc welding (FCAW). In addition, G.E. Mathis Company has a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) on staff.

Applications for Mining

Mining IndustryMany mining components are made using abrasion-resistant and high-strength steel, protecting them from the extreme conditions to which they are regularly exposed. These products include chutes, mills, sorters, and hydro cyclones.

G.E. Mathis Company aims to supply products that meet the unique needs of mining operations and maintain compliance with all safety requirements. Some of our components are used to fabricate the following:

  • Conveyor belts: Hardox steel materials extend the service life of conveyor deflector plates and sidewalls.
  • Elevators: Reliable steel materials provide a stronger hold for elevators in deep mines with high lateral pressure.
  • Mine cars and cages: This equipment also requires durable aluminum and steel materials to provide a sufficient hold.
  • Drifts: Steel components provide added stability for drift mining operations.
  • Ore pass: The chutes in ore pass systems are often lined with shotcrete, steel, or concrete.
  • Skips: Most skips feature stainless steel or aluminum construction.

G.E. Mathis Company Mining Solutions

Mining operations rely on safe and efficient metal fabrication for a wide variety of products. Since our establishment in 1905, we have provided our customers with reliable fabrication and value-added services.

For one of our customers in the mining industry, we were able to fabricate component parts measuring over 240 inches long, using plasma-cut stainless steel and our 1,000-ton press brake. You can read more about this project in our case study.

As an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer, we also offer the following services for mining applications:

  • PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) – All levels
  • FAIR (First Article Inspection Report)
  • CMRT (Conflict Minerals Reporting Template)
  • Capability Studies (Statistical Process Control)
