Requiring a custom welded boom-tube section that was precision made to extremely tight tolerances, this construction client came to G.E. Mathis Company because of our expertise and industry knowledge.

Our experienced, AWS-certified welders are skilled at welding these boom-tubes with precision and holding all dimensions to extremely tight tolerances.


Designed to be used in a crane application, we seam welded this boom-tube section using our submerged arc seam welder. We ground the seam after welding as a finishing process. The boom-tube was made from Domex 100XF with a mill finish and had final dimensions measuring 1/4″ thick x 18″ x 20″ x 240″ long. We worked to tightest tolerances of ±0.125″ throughout this project. Our inspection process included first article, mid-run, and final inspections; by the end of the project, we had completed 50 pieces and delivered them to the customer’s facility within 3 weeks.
